Update Your Skills with the Master Builder Program
|
The 2006 national report on Recommended Education Benchmarks for Builders and Renovators prompted the Canadian Home Builders' Association of BC (CHBA BC) to create a professional builder program that would meet or exceed national standards.
The goal of the CHBC BC Skills Department is to create a suite of 11 courses that meet the CHBA National Standards and Homeowner Protection Office recommendations, while also providing business and management skills to meet the provincial need for a higher standard for those entering the business of building homes. The final outcome will be a recognized CHBA BC Master Builder designation that will be marketed throughout BC. This program is very timely, considering the requirements for training that were recently established by the Homeowner Protection Office.
All courses successfully completed by builders in the existing Certified Residential Builder (CRB) and the Registered Housing Professional (RHP) programs will count as full credit towards the Master Builder designation. The Master Builder program will include a further five new courses that address areas outlined in the national report. The courses include:
1. Business Planning and Management
2. Human Resources and Management
3. Safe Work Practices
4. Communication and Negotiation
5. Service and Warranty
The Canadian Home Builders' Association of BC is committed to providing professional development opportunities for existing builders and for individuals seeking a career in the industry. With a focus on the continual improvement of our training programs, we will continue to raise the level of professionalism and set a high standard for entry into this important economic sector.
All CHBA BC program courses have been developed to meet the demands and needs of the industry, to have relevancy to the industry today, and to reflect good local building practices. This model will ensure that the industry maintains strong control over the direction of education within the industry.
