Graduate Master Builder (GMB)





To earn the Graduate Master Builder (GMB) designation, an individual must:
  • Have a total of five years experience with 3 years practical "hands on" in the residential construction industry either in a vocational school environment or on-the-job training
  • Be the owner of a building company
  • Be member of the Canadian Home Builders' Association for at least two years, one year of which must be immediately prior to receiving certification
  • Be a member in good standing with a warranty provider
  • Be registered with the Homeowner Protection Office
  • Pay an annual registration fee
  • Successfully complete the following six mandatory courses and the additional five "Master Builder" courses with a passing grade of 80%

    1. Financial Management
    2. Project Management and Site Supervision
    3. Marketing and Project Sales
    4. Built Green™ Builder Training
    5. Construction Law
    6. BC Building Code - Single Family Dwellings.

Master Builder Courses

    1. Business Planning and Management
    2. Human Resources Planning and Management
    3. Safe Work Practices
    4. Communication and Negotiation
    5. Service and Warranty
Due to the constantly changing nature of the industry, and to encourage an on-going commitment to continuing education, the designations are granted for a one-year period only. Annually, CHBA-BC mails to all individuals a renewal fee invoice.
The fee must be paid within 30 days to avoid de-registration.
